Aceast\u0103 patologie este rezultatul unui dezechilibru al mu\u0219chilor oculari, determin\u00e2nd orientarea unui ochi \u00eentr-o direc\u021bie diferit\u0103 fa\u021b\u0103 de cel\u0103lalt. Aceast\u0103 discrepan\u021b\u0103 \u00eentre axele optice ale ochilor poate provoca distorsiuni \u00een percep\u021bia vizual\u0103 \u0219i afecteaz\u0103 \u00een mod semnificativ vederea Aceasta implic\u0103 o interac\u021biune complex\u0103 \u00eentre factori genetici, de mediu \u0219i de dezvoltare. De\u0219i mu\u0219chii oculari sunt responsabili pentru mi\u0219c\u0103rile ochilor, controlul acestora este reglat de o re\u021bea complicat\u0103 de semnale nervoase transmise de la creier.
