In stadiile incipiente, glaucomul poate fi asimptomatic, iar simptomele pot aparea doar cand boala este deja avansata.<\/p><p>Este important de retinut c\u0103 anumi\u021bi factori, cum ar fi v\u00e2rsta, istoricul familial \u0219i anumite afec\u021biuni medicale, pot cre\u0219te riscul de a dezvolta glaucom. Glaucomul pediatric poate fi congenital, juvenil sau infantil, in functie de varsta la care se diagnosticheaza. Bebelusul se poate naste cu aceasta afectiune, sau poate sa apara ulterior, ca urmare a altor probleme oculare sau a unor afectiuni medicale. Copiii cu glaucom pot prezenta simptome, cum ar fi sensibilitate la lumina, lacrimare excesiva, clipit excesiv si corneea opaca. Tratamentul depinde de cauza si gravitatea afectiunii si poate include picaturi oftalmice, interventii chirurgicale sau terapie cu laser. Daca un parinte are glaucom, exista un risc de aproximativ 10% ca un copil sa dezvolte glaucom in timpul vietii lor. Acest risc poate creste la pana la 50% daca ambii parinti au glaucom. In cazul formelor usoare pana la moderate ale glaucomului, medicamentele sub forma de picaturi pentru ochi sunt adesea prescrise pentru a reduce presiunea intraoculara. In cazurile mai avansate sau in cazul in care medicamentele nu sunt eficiente, se poate recurge la terapii laser sau interventii chirurgicale.<\/p><p>Este important de tinut minte ca tratamentul pentru glaucom este pe termen lung si ca este necesar sa se efectueze controale regulate dupa procedurile chirurgicale sau laser.
